Introducing a new exciting San Francisco Story tradition: the Grab Bag Guess Where.
It’s a highly complicated game in which I toss up an image of a place somewhere and sometime in the city’s past. You get to feel all smart because you know about it. Or you throw up your metaphorical hands and wait until the end of the email-post where I give you the skinny.
Let’s start with something worthy of San Francisco Story’s ambition and reputation: a shuttered, decrepit “Schnitzel House.”
Where was this? What’s the back story? Where can anybody get good schnitzel in San Francisco today? Two of these questions will be answered at the end.
Dolphin-Riding Boys Found
I was taking a walk behind Elk Lake in Golden Gate Park and stumbled upon some familiar rear-ends.

Well, they are familiar to those of us who look at too many old photos of the Golden Gate International Exposition (GGIE), a fair which took place on Treasure Island in 1939-1940.
